Sherman County Speedway
Goodland,
KS. Write up by Chris Martinez/
Big West Racing:
We (Bellm Motorsports) unloaded 3 cars.
#73 driven by Joe Bellm was fast out of the box and showed it in the heat race.
In the “Pole Dash” the crew threw a change to the car and it was not a good
change, so we went back to original starting set-up.
In the Main event Joe started on the outside but was
able to get to the bottom quick to start his march to the front. #98 Eddie
Edwards had a fast car but it was not exactly handling good for Eddie making him
come out of the corners sideways more than usual, unfortunately that resulted in
Bellm and Eddie getting together a few times before Joe was able to make the
pass.
Now with Joe in 4th Joe was moving in on David Murray
Jr. as David was making a move to the inside of second place Holzmeister, Bellm
dove under Murray only to get pushed down by Murray into the tires, that
resulted in a ripped brake line sending the car out of control into the outside
tire barrier destroying the car, Chassis is broke and bent, rear clip is a taco,
rear-end housing is in 2 pieces, front uppers are gone, shocks, rear links,
body, interior etc. etc.
After learning that Eddie Martin was Dq’ed for being 30 lbs light it was salt in
the wound, the pass we were making was for 2nd. Oh well, who knows, after 50
laps of caution we might have been light also. Car will be on the Chassis jig
and will be in action this weekend.
#06 driven by Adam Hilton was fast out of the box as
well and showed it in the qualifier but unfortunately Adam spun while running in
second down the backstretch keeping the car out of the infield and was able to
keep going before bringing out the caution and marched back to 3rd but only the
top 2 transferred so it was last chance time for the “C-Town Hustler” and the
damn pull bar broke in his race as he was in a transferring position ending his
weekend of racing.
#6 Dominic Ursetta was competing in only his 3rd event
and did well, stayed out of trouble but was unable to transfer through his last
chance. Dominic will be a good addition to modified racing as he showed he is
not afraid to run with the best of em.
Off the track the weekend was a blast as well with some
good friends, new and old partying hardy both nights back at the hotel. The
Flatlander festival downtown on Saturday morning was cool, lots of nice street
rods and some good country carnival grub.
