IMCA Spring Nationals
3/20 120 plus Modifieds
fled through the gates of Beatrice Speedway for the 2009 Spring Nationals Friday
afternoon. That being said, starting in the back of a heat race was a very tough
task. Taking the green flag in the 8th spot proved to be a tall order as Dominic
fought his way up to the 5th position before seeing the checkered flag. That
would then put him 8th on the grid for the qualifying main. Dry-slick one-lane
race tracks are drivers worst enemies when starting outside the first couple
rows. This was plain to see in Fridays qualifying mains. Dominic was able to
power his Jeff Taylor Modified up to a 5th place finish from the 8th starting
spot only to be 3 spots short of an A-main appearance.
3/21 Saturday was a new day for the 6u
Arvada X Motorsports Modified as a great pill draw and a very stout race car
piloted Dom from a 4th place starting spot in the heat race to the lead very
quickly. From there he never looked back and locked in a spot in the A-feature.
Starting the main event in 12th place Dom showed that he definitely had the car
to run up front in the 24-car field by fighting his way up to the 7th spot just
before the mid-race point. Contact with Jay Noteboom going into turn 3 not long
after, caused a tire rub on the left rear tire. The tire rub unfortunately would
cut his tire down, ending the day for the #6u and resulting in a 21st place
finish. The disappointing end to a great run still left the team with high hopes
and a head of steam for Sunday's race.
3/22 Picking up right where they
left off, the #6u team had a great pill draw and starting spot for the heat race
to work with. After starting 3rd, Dominic quickly moved his DC Racing Engines
powered modified into the 2nd spot. When they took the white flag he had pulled
up on the back bumper of the leader and the final lap was set for a great
finish. Racing side by side through turns 3 and 4, Dom squeezed by on the inside
and took the win securing another starting spot in the A-main. The green flag
flew in the 30-lap feature with Dominic starting in the 7th spot. A hard fought,
side by side battle took place for the entire race and a 4th place finish just
in front of Saturdays winner Ricky Alvarado was just what the team needed.
The bar was set high for Arvada X Motorsports for the start of the 2009
season with the 6u Modified of Dominic Ursetta qualifying for 2 of the 3
features and scoring a much needed top 5 finish on Sunday in one of the most
difficult races in all of IMCA.
